Wondering what the group thinks of these. I am specifically thinking about the type that replace the oil pump and use a spin on filter. Do they require modification of the tin? Are they worth it? Engine is stock 1600 DP.
Thanks! |

VW de Mexico used them on the later 1600 engines. I have one on my dune buggy. Most folks don't recommend them. Back in the day I had a bad experience with a remote mounted filter setup driving on the Northeast Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike. Oil flowing through rubber hoses---not a good thing! _________________ 63 Beetle |

Thanks Bob! Trying to put together a list of everything that I need to do to get my Thing on the road and since the engine has to come out I was wondering about an oil filter. Think I will skip it if it isn't recommended. |

I put a spin-on adapter on my '58 Beetle but it is a 2110cc that I also added an external oil cooler to. Unless you're adding a cooler, I wouldn't bother with the spin-on. _________________ '58 RHD 2110cc Beetle

The only way to go is full flow, by having the case and oil pump drilled and tapped for fittings, and running professionally crimped hoses. Rubber hoses are begging for destruction. _________________ '69 Bug, 1776, dual kadrons, Web 111 cam
