They work fine. Install the sender under the #3spark plug and you'll learn a lot on your first drive. _________________ Jake Raby

What kind of readings do you get now in normal flat driving? _________________ 1969 Beetle

I haven't driven it much yet, but it seems to run in the mid 300s. JM |

If the sender is under the #3 plug you should see the following:
Light load, flat driving-280-330
Heavier load, up slight grades- 340-375
Larger hills, mountains or in a head wind in the middle of summer- 375-400
Anything more than 400 is critical and is an indication of mistuning or a less than optimum engine combination.
If you can keep the heads 325-350 all the time the engine will last forever. I dod this with my 912E and it went 160K and had no signs of being tired when I pulled it down to update it. _________________ Jake Raby

Jake and all, I seem to be running around 380 or 390, any idea how I can bring that down? JM |

Is that up hill or on flat ground? You need to drop 30-40 degrees if those numbers are on flat ground in this type of ambient temp we've been having. Is the gauge you have a VDO? _________________ Jake Raby

It is the Dakota Digital, that's mostly flat ground. It varies, of course, with the high begin only a couple of points above 400 for just just a few seconds. JM |
