NOTE: I'm not mechanical and much of the following is greek to me. It's what my mechanic says:

When the CHT gauge was installed the timing was set at top dead center. In order to bring the temperature down we retarded the timing to 11 degrees off top dead center. The mechanic didn't want to go any farther for fear of the engine running too lean and burning a cylinder. I don't notice a loss of power but the temperature is still not down where it should be. It runs at about 365 where it formerly ran at about 385 (50-55 mph on fairly flat roads and with one small passenger), but now it varies more wildly, up to 408. And that's with me driving conservatively.

Any ideas on what I can do to bring the temp down? I've got a temp-activated fan in the engine compartment. JM

it's late but I'm going to give it a shot anyway......first a couple of questions

1. does your distrubtor have a little can on it, IE is it the stock distributor?

2. do you have a green bentley? section 5 page 72 details how to time an your engine, may want to take it to your mechanic and let him read over it.

From what I can make out, your engine (74 right?) is timed 10 degrees AFTER TDC with everything still connected. I'm not entirely certain about this so others may want to verify......zzzzzz
