Volkstock will be here before you know it. Make plans to be there and start posting if you have something for us to work on during the weekend. _________________ 73 Typ481

I'd like to replace my front beam with the handcrafted narrowed/adjustable beam Joe fabricated. |

Barge away! We haven't got enough to keep us busy yet.
Actually, you aren't barging in at all. You were a great asset last year and we look forward to your return. _________________ 73 Typ481

I may not be able to make it this year. It looks like I will be shooting a wedding that weekend. _________________ 1963 Beetle

Hey all- Newbie here. What is this "Volkstock"? Based on the forum threads it looks like a weekend of binge work on anyone's VW who shows up.
Where does this take place? Do I have to do anything to come and talk shop and look over shoulders to try and learn a thing or two?
I just acquired my first air cooled VW in March- a '69 Ghia. I would love to start taking advantage of the collective VW knowledge that you all have. |

Volkstock is indeed a weekend of VW projects. You are definitely invited to come join the fun. We will put you to work or if you are more comfortable watching, that's fine too.
We start Friday evening. Many of us stay there the whole weekend. We camp in campers and our hosts, Ken and Inge have some room for folks to sleep too. Friday night we order pizza, Saturday night we cook-out. It isn't all work, there is pool. The following is a previous post of mine that kinda sums it up.
If you have never made it to any of the Volkstocks in the past, you should try to come to this one. You don't have to stay long if you don't want to. We work on VWs, swim, eat, and tell lies. (maybe drink a beer or two) Many of us stay the whole weekend, but many more just drop by.
We do all this only 20 - 30 minutes down 316 from Athens.

Is your Ghia the red one I have seen running around Oconee? _________________ 73 Typ481

Thanks for the info! I will definitely try to make it out there- likely on Saturday. I'm just learning about this car and others like it, so my main motivation at this point is to meet and talk with others who know lots more than I do.
My Ghia is in Oconee County, but it's charcoal grey. I got it from a retired mechanical engineer in central Alabama. He had done a pretty decent job of restoring the car and planned to pull it behind his RV. His wife had a knee or hip replacement, and it became too hard for her to get in and out of the car. So, he let go of the Ghia and was working on a bug when I met him.
I would post a photo of it if I could figure out how. When I click<Upload picture>, I get the following message, "Image-directory is not writable."[/img] |

I look forward to meeting you and your Ghia.
I host my photos on Photobucket first and then it is easy to use the image code to post them here. _________________ 73 Typ481

Just saw that my CV boots are tore. Is that something that I could rebuild / repair at volkstock. I will do the work but I'd like some guidance during the rebuild. _________________ 1969 Beetle

You could easily do that at Volkstock. It is a messy job, but not too hard. _________________ 73 Typ481

~Rear brake light, drivers side, stumping me for months
~Tune-up...
~Right rear wheel bearing? Something is making a high pitched whiny sound back there
~accessory jack/plug for my stereo? Nothing to plug into (no RCA) in the back
~rubbing compound the whole bus...!!!
~New windshield seal and any emergency/quick rust remediation under there.
~Engine seal
maybe?
~readjust rear torsion
And that's for the bus... _________________ "A vision without a task is a dream - a task without a vision is drudgery- but a task with vision can change the world."
