So I finally got my Dakota Digital gauges in (only took me 2 years) With lots of help, I finally have my CHTs under control but I've noticed my oil temp gets to 240-250 when cruising between Jefferson and Athens. My speed is usually around 60mph.
timing is at 28 deg with the hoses removed.
bradd penn 20w-50 year round
any thoughts? I may try advancing the timing a bit. _________________ 1969 Beetle

Have you double checked the calibration? You know, have you stuck your sending unit into some boiling water? _________________ 73 Typ481

My bug's oil reaches 240 on hot summer days with drives over 30 minutes. It takes forever for it to cool down. As in, if you pull over and let it idle, waiting patiently, watching the gauge, you might as well go inside a bookstore or walk around the mall or learn a new language. _________________ '69 Bug, 1776, dual kadrons, Web 111 cam

interesting, do you have any way of telling what the oil pressure is when it gets that hot? _________________ 1969 Beetle

Yes, and the pressure is directly related to temperature. Pressure drops as temperature increases. If I remember right, at 240
Degrees, the pressure at idle was like 10-15psi. Normally like 25. _________________ '69 Bug, 1776, dual kadrons, Web 111 cam
