It is with a heavy heart that I post this. Rick Hester, a friend to everyone he ever met, passed away on March 6th. Rick attended as many VW functions as his family and work schedule allowed. He was always sure to attend Bug-a-Paluza and the Christmas parade.

No matter what the situation, his smile never faded from his face. I will always remember his smile. He was a great friend and I am blessed to have known him. RIP Rick.

"Richard “Rick” McRae Hester Jr.
Rick Hester was a devoted husband, loving father, and a friend of everyone he met. He was a man of strong faith who loved his family, beekeeping, Volkswagens, and gardening.
On the evening of March 6, 2016, Rick passed away at Emory Hospital due to heart complications. Born on February 20, 1951, he was 65 years old.
Rick is the eldest son of Martha Harriett Bennett Hester and Richard McRae Hester Sr. Rick was a family man—an amazing father and husband.
Rick married Avis Hester on February 1, 1977, after they found undeniable chemistry in a Chemistry course. He adored Avis and they were loyal companions for 39 years.
He was a shining example for his children; Nathan, Cassie, Micah, Westley, Luke, and Riley Hester.
Rick graduated from Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (1978) and the University of Georgia (1980). During his studies, he established Hester Landscape & Irrigation, a family business that is still thriving today.
He proudly served in U.S. Air Force from 1971-1975.
Family visitation to take place on Wednesday, March 9th from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. The memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, March 10th. Both events will be at Oconee River Church. (395 Research Drive, Athens Ga 30605).
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Oconee River Methodist Church or Alzheimer’s research."

If you plan to attend the memorial service please come 10 minutes early to assure you get a seat
