I am in the progress of rebuilding a 71 standard beetle and one of the holes where the horn ring attaches is stripped out. Does anyone know if there is a compound or filler or something to rebuild the hole? _________________ 71 Standard Beetle "Big Bird"

I don't know what size thread that is, but I'd suggest a helicoil kit- about $30-$40 at Pep Boys. Compounds won't tap-they'll tear. _________________ '69 Bug, 1776, dual kadrons, Web 111 cam

Unfortunately I don't see anybody that makes one that small. The hole is an 1/8" at best. Thanks for your help. _________________ 71 Standard Beetle "Big Bird"

I'm not familiar with that part. Can it be drilled out and tapped for a larger size screw? _________________ Ya can't have too many VDUBS.

The problem is the special shouldered horn screw. If you use a larger screw, you'll have to drill out the plastic sleeve it slides through. I guess you could try it.
71 beetle- If you bring the screw to the next Loco's meet, I'll tell you what the thread size is. My guess is m5. There are helicoils for down to m4, and maybe smaller.
