Thanks again guys. I am truly glad to be part of the team and I look forward to meeting the rest of the group.
Jon, If you ever have an idea that we will have a good to full showing at an event or meeting, let me know an I will pack the camera gear for the photo we talked about.
Jake, I really did appreciate having you under the deck lid. She's running like a champ. _________________ 71 Standard Beetle "Big Bird"

We had a good day. Steve WILL be driving his 63 to BAP. The new trans is working well. There are a couple of black marks in my driveway to prove it. Good to meet Scott ( 71 Georgia Beetle) and Tito (and Lori..the true owner of Tito's bug). I'm gald we could get both your bugs running better. Not everyone can get Jake Raby to tune their type 1s.
Thanks to Clyde for his time and to Johnny and Joe for coming up from Augusta. Thanks for the money for the Poker Run guys. Also making an appearence and helping out were Bob and Scott and early in the day, Ron. _________________ 73 Typ481

Yes, I will be driving the 63 to BAP thanks to everyones help This car finally has a tranny that stays in all forward gears and one that runs backwards! (thanks Johnny and Joe) I greatly appreciate all of the help from everyone and thanks to Jon for hosting the get together and Mary for bringing the sammies
Tito we never did get to adjust my valves, so you did not miss out. Maybe we'll have a valve adjusting tech day next, and yours can be the first to be adjusted.
Now I'm just trying to figure out what this brown and red stain is that I woke up with this morning _________________ Steve

I don't have a picture of the previous 280 to 300 temps before but here is the result of Jake's work and this is seconds after a 40 minute ride. Note the highest temp. DAMN!

Thanks Joe and Johnny for helping finish up after I went home. I'm sure we all slept well.
It was good to meet Josh & Lori and Scott for the first time, and see everyone else.
Thanks to Joe and the Augusta gang for the donation towards Poker Run prizes!
We all owe Jon for letting us stain his driveway and Mary for the Publix sandwiches. These tech days are like running a marathon- I'm dizzy and confused towards the end _________________ '69 Bug, 1776, dual kadrons, Web 111 cam

I was glad to help out 71 Ga beetle and Tito, without that assistance the lives of both their engines could have been measured in days.
71 Ga beetle, throw away that temp gun, it'll do you no good at all. Go to my forums at http://forums.aircooledtechnology.com and do some searches on why. You must buy and instalkl a cylinder head temperature gauge so real time readings can be taken while you drive, else you'll melt the engine and never even know it!
The infrared temp gun doesn't momitor the hottest part of the head and is virtually worthless, because as soon as you shut the engine down and get to the back to take a reading with your nifty gadget, the temps have already cooled 100 degrees!!

I had a good time and it was a real wake up call that there are still lots of entry level VW enthusiast that need real information and reference material to help them avoid the mistakes that I enncountered while getting to my level with these engines.
I don't have much contact with engines that are stock and not totally insane, so I'll certainly do my best to pop in at these tech days when possible.
Now, Tito and Scott, keep reading, keep learning and I hope to see you asking some questions over at my online community....
And yes, now you can see why the members chuckled at your question after I set your timing.... _________________ Jake Raby
