I premise this by saying that I believe in German engineering. What did the 74 Westy or Transporter have for an air cleaner? My 71 Beetle has an oil bath and the 76 has a paper filter. I'm pretty sure that the little, shiny, race car looking paper aftermarket was not stock.

Hard to tell for sure from the picture, but it looks like you have a Weber progressive carb. They are not stock and do have shiny race car airfilters on them. Not a problem if you keep them clean. _________________ 73 Typ481

Do yourself a favor.
Remove that POS carb... Grab a 12 gauge shotgun.
Blast it into oblivion! You'll be a step ahead right from the start! Replace the stock FI.
That Carb belongs on a Ford Pinto- thats what it came on.. There is nothing worse for a TIV engine.
I have a complete stock FI system that I'll let you have for 100bucks! _________________ Jake Raby

I have a complete stock FI system that I'll let you have for 100bucks! | From what I'm reading, 74 automatics had FI but manual. 1975 all bays had FI. I have a 74 manual, will FI work? Can it work? Or should I convert it back to a dual carb and ditch the POS progressive? _________________ 71 Standard Beetle "Big Bird"

Thanks a million for your help. _________________ 71 Standard Beetle "Big Bird"
