okay this is beyond frustrating.

i have spark. i have fuel. i have air. but still no combustion.

i have replaced the carb, the starter w/ bushing, the coil, the distributor cap, the points and condenser, the spark plug wires, and the spark plugs. the timing is dead on. the starter spins just fine. the battery is fresh. why is it not starting? any ideas guys?

i wonder if the oil still being 20w50 is it? could it be that simple? i have 5w30 to switch out for the winter but i still need the bug to warm up the oil so it can come out.

jesus im pissed.

Is it even trying to start? Are you sure the timing is correct? If it won't start you must have static timed it, which is fine, but be sure you timed it for #1 cylinder.

The oil won't have anything to do with starting. I'm running 20W50 right now....no problems.

Try looking for 12 v on the coil during the "start" cycle, my ignition switch went bad and it would spin the starter but the 12 v would go away during the start cycle and come back on at run.

Maybe its flooded real bad. Have you pulled a plug to see if they're wet with fuel. If you ever get one flooded and don't know it. The more you spin and pump it , the worse it gets. Just a thought.

Let's start at the beginning.

1. Is the starter turning over at a good clip?
2. How do you know you have spark?
3. How do you know you have fuel past the carb?
4. Can you see a nice squirt down the carb?
5. 1432 in the correct order on the 009 and the car?
6. Are you sure you have the correct wires in the correct places on the coil?
7. Has one of the coil wires been inadvertently knocked off or severed?

Start simple. Take your time, if you checked it, check it again. Don't assume that "it" is OK because you just replaced it or check "it" a week ago. Lastly, check "it" again.

Tito it may be your points. check that they are set to specs and do not have a "tit" on one of the point surfaces. If it does, file the points smooth and adjust. Since it does try to start it's probably not the condenser. If the points are ok, remove the air filter and squirt a little gas directly into the carburetor. If it starts momentarily, it's a fuel problem. A whole new set of problems to troubleshoot. Keep us informed.

Clyde just left. Jana ran for longer than she has in 3 weeks with me wrenching on her for just the slightest caress from him in under 4 minutes, phhhtt! figures. Jana has a crush on Clyde or something. anywho, im off to recharge the battery (again) but that should be it. the points werent gapped correctly, the timing needed to be advanced a little bit, and one of the power lines to the coil was pretty loose. simple things that i was pulling my hair out over.

THANKS CLYDE!!

No Problem. I knew it would be something simple. The hard part is figuring which simple thing it is.

The "mud" should just be finely ground rust. "Painted"? Is that the outside? Did you condition the inside? Otherwise you will be back again doing this soon.
