I left work a little early today to get to early voting before 5:00 pm. I turned off of hwy 78 onto hwy 53 and ended up behind a Ford Expedition that refused to go the speed limit. Luckily they turned shortly into a church parking lot. (an answer to my prayer ) I down shifted to 2nd to speed back up and realized I was being passed by a Dodge truck. I floored it, but as he was already up to speed, I didn't gain much in 2nd. The driver and passenger were looking in their mirrors and laughing. I shifted to 3rd and kept it on the floor. The distance between us started shrinking. I shifted to 4th at about 55 mph and still floored it. By now I was on his tailgate. Did I mention that when he saw me on the gas in 3rd gear, he got back on his gas pedal? I had caught him and at the higher speeds he could not pull away from me. Both the driver and passenger were looking in their mirrors with disbelief and laughing. I was laughing too and staying right on the Dodge's bumper. We got to almost 80 and I backed off to 60. They backed off too. It was a blast and I bet next time they will think twice before they pass a Thing.
I want MORE power. This Thing is bad ass and wanting MORE. _________________ 73 Typ481

Yeah, that guy (Ian) bought the engine Jake used in his cross country excursion in the blue bug in 2006. Jake pulled the engine once he got to California and had the old blue bug shipped back home. From what I've heard, Ian has blown up several transmissions in that Thing since the new engine was installed _________________ Beth Raby |

Yep, he is on tranny #3 and making me proud!! I love it when beasts we create explode gear boxes, even if they are mine :-)
Jon, if you want more thats simple from this level... Those carbs will support 145HP and 165 lb/ft of torque... I'd say all you'd need would be a 2056-140 combo for a 40+% gain over what you have now and that engine is a capability with stock heads. Or you could be like Beth and add boost, Wally in the Netherlands is getting 270HP from a bone stock 2.0/ 914 engine just like yours!
Glad you are enjoying it. One day people will learn that the only way to enjoyably go fast for extended durations of time is by making it MassIVe- _________________ Jake Raby
