I spent part of the afternoon Veteran's Day with my father-in-law, retired Sergeant First Class Jim (Smitty) Smith, a 20 year veteran of the army. He served honorably in Korea, Germany and Vietnam. My wife, Dianna took him to the American Legion and the VFW as she's done almost weekly for the past several years. We sat outside at his house later in the day and enjoyed a few cold beers and some good conversation. He had a great day with friends and family.
Smitty died about 7:00 the next morning while preparing to take his shower. It was probably a massive heart attack and he apparently went quick. Di and I got there right after the ambulance and fire department got there but it was too late. He'll be buried Saturday with military honors.
Smitty was one of the good ones: a good father, husband, friend and patriot. I'm glad he got to enjoy one more Veteran's Day and know that he was appreciated for his service.
He celebrated his 50th wedding anniversary with Judy in September. Smitty was 72. He will be greatly missed. _________________ '67 Westy (Ursula)

Sorry Tanner and Di. I'll be praying for Dianna's family. I can't think of anything that hurt more than losing my Dad.
Ironically, my Dad died on November 12th also, 1997. _________________ '69 Bug, 1776, dual kadrons, Web 111 cam
