hello, is it front end shake- could be number of things from tires - tie rods , ball joints-- when i got my bug it did not ride to smooth- once i changed the tie rod ends it got better - my tires were bad also- , glad the carb worked-

Drive at a speed where the car doesn't shake. 38, 47, whatever works.
J.K.

Kneel in front of each front tire and yank on them, both hands at 12 o'clock. Any movement? (ball joints). Now 9 and 3 o'clock. any movement or clunking? (tie rods). How's the steering stabilizer? If it passes these OK, the tires most likely need balancing.

I had the same problem on my '66. I almost guarantee it's the steering dampener. Clyde has/had them. Around $20 and easy to install.
