What would it take to run the old faithful "pizza cutter" mud grips on a super?

I pondered the little slip in coil spring spacers or even gas shocks, but dont know which way to go. The rear looks like it will be easy, its the front.

Oh, I almost posted this question on the samba and then came to my senses. Apparently they dont like anything outside of the cookie cutter mold.

I want the nostalgic "I own this bug and I can do what ever I want with it" look. That and a little metal flake paint!

So,,,,,

who has the great ideas and who will be feeling fabricational in february?
