Hey boys and girls, I've got a good question for you. Here is the deal. The 67 bug I maintain is losing brake fluid, but from where? The brakes work very well and don't fade and the pedal does not go down if it is held with pressure. There is fluid dripping from the hole in the pan in the rear just in front of the transaxle, so it is coming down the inside of the tunnel. To me that would indicate the master cylinder, but it seems to be fine. I've checked all around the pedal cluster and can find nothing. Any ideas??? _________________ 73 Typ481

Could a pin hole have been rubbed in the hard line that runs the tunnel or a rust hole? _________________ 71 Standard Beetle "Big Bird"

No brake lines run down the tunnel. The line runs down the inside of the car. No apparent leaks there. _________________ 73 Typ481

Lake Jims was doing the same thing. It was the master cylinder. It was leaking wher it comes through the fire wall and running down the tunnel. _________________ 73 Super

That's what I was afraid the answer would be.

Thanks for the help. Clyde has master cylinders, so I'll be swinging by his house tonight to pick one up.
Good to see you are alive Gary. _________________ 73 Typ481
