Hey guys, I'm in the middle of replacing my steering box when I realized that one of my innner tie rod ends had a tear in the boot. My question (s) is this, is there anything I should watch out for when I replace the inner tie rods. I'll only have access to hand tools. Should I go ahead and replace the outer tie rod ends also AND if I'm replacing both ends, should I go ahead and just get a new tie rod assembly WHEW! I think I may be over thinking it here a bit. |

If you're going to keep your car forever, go ahead and replace everything now, and you can forget about it for 10 years or so.
Most shops don't carry the complete tie rod assys. I've sold one set, and didn't have the time to inspect or compare it with the original, so I can't say anything about the quality of the new complete units. Personally, I like the original parts, and if they're not bent, I see no need in replacing them. _________________ '69 Bug, 1776, dual kadrons, Web 111 cam

Agreed! Give em a wiggle test. If they are even alittle worn now is the time to do them. I buy my tierod ends from Clyde , and being they are inexpensive why not do all four. But I would just do the ends. I've never bought a complete assembly. Count your threads to get it close. But measure and adjust tow when your done. _________________ Shane Price

Excellent, Do you happen to have 4 tie rod ends in stock? I think I may need one of the ends to have a hole for the steering dampener (do I need a steering dampener bushing also?) |

Yup I have them. The one for the steering damper is like 2 or 3 bucks more than the others. I don't have the bushing by itself. The tie rod comes with one already:-)
Let me know if you definately need them, and I'll set them aside before I leave for Florida. _________________ '69 Bug, 1776, dual kadrons, Web 111 cam
