Its not pressure, its volume thats needed. The big guns have a huge demand for volume and at higher volume levels its more difficult to retain pressure.
Install a "working pressure" gauge in line to the impact and you can watch what it does when the gun is under load..
A cheap ass flea market impact can work better with correct air volume than a 600 dollar one with crappy volume.
I swapped to electric and won't go back, its the baddest machine I have ever used, the torque is astounding. _________________ Jake Raby

I have renamed this "The Engine From Hell". So........I got the gland nut off, flywheel off and then the dreaded heads. All but four of the nuts came off, the rest came with the case bolts. This might be common but a 15mm on a 3/8" ratchet with a 6' cheater and again my fat ass on the other end, just to break torque..........I think is a little extreme. Heads off, jugs off and now the pulley.........oh shit! I put on the CIP1 finest China pulley puller and it straightened out like it was made with four coke cans. So, I load up the engine and take it over to the local auto center and he breaks his Snap On puller and said he was afraid to put to much more on his harmonic balancer. So I bring it back home and let the carnage begin. Whack it from behind with a very large screw driver, nothing. Heat it, whack it and nothing. Steel wedge between it and the case with a 2lb hammer and.....................nothing. Well, I did break my hammer.
So then I set put for revenge. I bring out the 8lb sledge hammer and start FU*^*ING wailing. At this point my blood pressure was off the scale, I was at whits end and ready to kill something.

I see green loctite on that pulley where it mates to the crank... Green loctite is sleeve locker, it takes heat to compromise it. That green loctite is the same stuff thats holding the roller lifter bushings in Beth's engine case- its good shit!
The Claymore mine would be a good tool for the job, or a torch, or some armor piercing 7.62X54R ammo in the Dragunov.
Or just hit it with a torch and use a puller on it.
If you strip the pulley down to the hub the case halves will come apart and then the crank can be put into a press and have the damn pulley pressed off. If you need help, bring it to Heaven and I'll happily send it to Hell for you. _________________ Jake Raby

Jeez, did a Loctite salesman build that engine? Im real reluctant to use loctite on anything and thats why. I might need to get it back off one day. _________________ Shane Price

Upon closer inspection of all the parts, it is indeed Loctite all over the place. _________________ 71 Standard Beetle "Big Bird"

The only thing I use Loctite for is retaining sleeves.
NO FASTENER on the engine should need more than torque to fasten it. _________________ Jake Raby

I'm not sure but my theory is: this beetle came from Mexico and might have been a taxi. They probably bullet proof these because of the poor terrain and keep shit from vibrating loose. Hell, who knows. _________________ 71 Standard Beetle "Big Bird"
