I will go to the tech day and learn about the fuel tank !
What's the best way to drain it all the way?
Remove it or Drain it -syphone it ?
Thanks for the thought
I'll try that.

What I do it drive the car until the tank is just about empty, then unbolt the tank and lift it up a bit. I use a piece of wood to prop it open. From there you should be able to wiggle off the fuel outlet hose. Most people use a golf tee but since I don't golf, I think i used an old screw driver. If you're quick, just a little gas will come out. I just put a rag underneath it. Wait, I forgot, do you have a beetle or a bus? _________________ 1969 Beetle

I drained mine recently by pulling off the hose just forward of the rear firewall, near the clutch arm, and let it drain into a can. I figure that's about the low point. That way the tank was already empty and easy, even for me, to remove. _________________ 1965 Beetle |

How is the easy way to the inside of the rear firewall?
Come from under the car or from where?
Sorry to be so (newby) on where things are.
I will get better.
Thanks again

Pull the rear drivers side tire off. That way you don't have to be underneath it (and have gas run all over you). _________________ '69 Bug, 1776, dual kadrons, Web 111 cam

Well i drained the tank last night and cleaned the strainer.
There was water in the gas!
The inside of the tank looked real good with only like two small lightly rusted spots.
I cleaned the strainer with denatured alchol.
And i blew the fuel line out to the back of the car.
I will replace the fule filter and the old fule line when putting this all back togather.
I'm having a blast working on this thing, and its a blast to drive.
I getting it ready to drive back and forth to work to see how much money i can save each month on gas.
Right now i'm driving a 2003 Ford Supercrew with the 5.4 V-8 @ $600 per mo in gas.
I will see and pass it on.
Thanks
Jeff
Hope this works for the running issue. _________________ Jeff Epperson

You were dead on that's what it looks like.
So i drained the tank, blew out all the hard line fuel ,replaced all the
soft lines and a new fuel filter and were back on the road.
Thanks again for the ideas
