I'm looking for suggestions. The car runs great after it's warmed up, and idles fine hot or cold BUT when it's cold, I have a misfire and poor acceleration. Any thoughts come to mind. It's a stock 1500 single port engine using a points replacement module and a rebushed solex 30 pict 2. _________________ 1969 Beetle

check to see if the manifold below the carburetor has "Iced" or is really cold.
What is you choke set at? |

Took it for a drive today then checked the heat risers and manifold. The hear risers were working but the part of the manifold directly under the carb was cold and had condesation on it. Could it be the high humidity causing the stumbling when it's cold? Do I need to add a little more choke (or less)? _________________ 1969 Beetle

The heat risers should be warm all the way to the center of the manifold.. If not they are clogged. _________________ Jake Raby

The riser on the left is very hot, the one on the right is warm so I figure they are working. It's the part of the manifold before it divides in two that has the condensaton. Maybe it just takes a while for the heat to make it up to that part? _________________ 1969 Beetle

It should be an even temp if they aren't clogged... The gasses are suppose to pass through the tube from one bank to the other. _________________ Jake Raby

Do you have hot air plumbed into the air cleaner? If you have a cheap chrome air cleaner this will accentuate the problem. You need the warm air mix to keep the carb base from cooling.
I know, I had the same problem last year with my super. I used an oil bath cleaner with the correct hot air intake and never had a problem. |

Hmm, that's a good thought, I had the tube connected but the engine would run hot since I didn't have the cable controlled flap inside the air cleaner hooked up. I may put it back on and do some testing. _________________ 1969 Beetle

I figured out my stumbling problem. The accelerator pump cover had loosened slightly, causing a vacuum leak. _________________ 1969 Beetle
