|
|
I have an engine that was rebuilt several years ago. It was driven only 100-200 miles and the car was parked. Shane and I disassembled it down to a short block and the case exterior, cylinders, and heads need to be cleaned. ( Yes, I could have done a better job of storing it and this wouldn't be necessary )
I'm thinking oven cleaner and pressure washing. Any better ideas? _________________ 73 Typ481

Jon --- As a hobby i do lots of Nitro racing leaving engine and parts very nasty.
I have a vat that i keep old antifreeze in and i soak the motor and pipes all metal parts in it overnight and rinse with water the next day.
for stubborn stains i heat the antifreeze up a little and it cleans unbleaveable almost like new rinse and your ready to go.
old antifreeze is cheep !
later
Jeff

I've never heard of using antifreeze to clean parts. I'll give it a try. _________________ 73 Typ481

Kent Holcomb (VW owner) who repairs cars here in Bishop put me onto Black Max for engine parts cleaning. Brush it on and wait a few minutes and rinse. Works great. Extra heavy coating will require extra applications. Black Max is available at most parts stores. _________________ Ya can't have too many VDUBS.

I ended up using some parts cleaner that came from Tractor Supply store. It is strong stuff - it ate my latex gloves! I put on some heavy rubber gloves and cleaned everything to almost new. I can read Mahle on the cylinders now and see the markings on the top of the cylinders. _________________ 73 Typ481

Trying to figure that out. The name was eaten off. Jake is right-not wimpy safe stuff. I didn't realize I still had enough of this stuff left. It comes in a metal 5 gallon can with several warnings on it. GOOD STUFF! _________________ 73 Typ481
