OK I have a strange one here for you, I think I may know what is going on but I would like a second opinion, so here goes.
I have really good brakes on my type 1 but sometimes they are too good. Here is what happened, on my way into Atlanta today I noticed it felt like the car did not want to roll (after about 30 miles on I-20), when ever I pushed the clutch in the car slowed down very quickly like I was pushing the brakes. So, when I get to work it is very noticeable I have to get the RMPs up to get the car to move in 1st gear. Now when the car cools down the brakes are back to normal. I have an idea what this could be but I would like to hear any suggestions that y'all can float, then I will tell y'all what I think it is. |

The brake master cylinder actuator rod is over adjusted. Back it off 4 turns and give it a try. _________________ Jake Raby

I will give it a try. The odd thing is I would think that if this was the issue that the brakes would be locking as soon as I get going, what do you think? |

Nope.. It is heat related. As the brake fluid heats up it expands and the issue is more pronounced.
Been there... Many more times than once. It always becomes more notable when the weather warms up. _________________ Jake Raby

I've seen it on all different types of vehicles also. I've seen Hondas and Toyotas with the front hubcaps melted off from improperly adjusted master cylinder pushrods. _________________ Shane Price

This sounds like the problem Thank you so very much for your assistance. I was thinking that it was water in my brake fluid heating up and making the brakes engage. The rod adjustment is a much easier fix than flushing the entire system!! I was NOT looking forward to doing that. |

You can fix it in 10 minutes. Adjust it to 1/4" contact clearance and go with it.
Also, ensure that the pedal is operating freely, sticky pedals can cause this too as they do not return to "free space" completely and apply residual pressure even when the brakes aren't being applied. _________________ Jake Raby
