Dragged this home from NJ this past weekend. It is a very rough car, not a candidate for restoration. Which is great because I don't want to restore it. I just want to resurrect it. The plan is to fix what is wrong and repair what rot is structural. We will then run the car in the BABE rally this June...maybe use the Poker Run as a tune up if it is ready by then. Current plan is to sell the car at the end of the rally.

I will be selling some parts off the car and it came with an extra disk brake front end. I hope to have some pics and a better list of what I am selling by the end of the week. Would like the stuff to go local if possible before I put it on the samba.

More pics at www.foolswagen.com

Ok...so far just about all of the interior is out. Bumpers are off. Tank is out. Decklid is off. Engine is out.

Just about ready to put it on a trailer to go to Joe's. Then it will get some bracing welded and the body will come off the pan.

Then lots of grinding and cutting and hopefully there will be enough good metal left to do something with.

15 days left until we head out for BABE! Engine is finally in and after picking up a starter it turns over! Hope to have it running sat morning and then brakes, electrical and everything else!

We are also working on using our exposure from the rally to raise money for charity. Expect an announcement any day on that!

As always, continue to check out our website, www.foolswagen.com, for updates

Finally got around to posting updates of the last two days. Laura also put together a couple of videos that are linked from her post.

Thanks guys. It was a blast and I am definitely less afraid of air cooled VW's than I had been!

Selling the Ghia hasn't worked out like we had hoped, so Laura and I are going in a couple weeks to New Orleans to get it and drive it back. Won't be able to make it to the July meeting, but will try to get it out to the August meeting.

Made it home safely in the Ghia. The heat was almost unbearable, but then shortly after we picked up Laura's truck, I got to drive through rain, wind, hail, and lightning.
