Ok, my 73sb has been sitting for the cold months, so I go out to start it up this weekend and start getting it ready for spring, and it has a hard time starting up, it finally starts, runs pretty rough...then stalls....upon trying to start again the carb appears to fill up with gas, and pours out, and then gas sprays out only one side (1\3) tail pipe....obviously oil is making it to the cylinders and coming out the pipes......my question, what could cause this... I have spent the last several hours reading boards,, but cant find an exact answer... Carb need a rebuild...stuck float, bad needle.... Any help would be greatly appreciate at this point... |

Stuck needle valve is the first thought I had. Smack the bowl of the carb with a screwdriver handle and see if that helps.
Carb rebuild and an oil change sound like they may be next on your list. _________________ 73 Typ481

Thanks so much guys, I did indeed rebuild my carb last night after a good cleaning, I drained the oil out of the engine, and let it sit over night. Lets keep our fingers crossed!! |

JUst hope the fuel didn't attack the pushrod tube seals and rear main seal.. If you end up with a new oil leak, you know what caused it. _________________ Jake Raby

Update: checked and adjusted valves, Filled oil, clean gas and guess what? Same thing!! DOH!! Removed carb and did further testing on float only to find out it is indeed bad. Visually it's fine but when doing pan test it will not float, bubbles and all. Found an original float here local from a very trusted source and picking it up tomorrow. Drained oil out and letting it dry. Hopefully back on the road by Saturday!!
