Hey Cave, I thought you disappeared. Good to see you still around. Give me a call when you can.
With Jake's guidance and Clyde's oversight, I'm going to build a go- fast engine. _________________ 73 Typ481

Cave,
The difference is the torque and RPM ranges..
Also your 122RWHP is 148 at the flywheel with the 20% drive train loss..
jon, You already have a go-fast engine. Its MassIVe! _________________ Jake Raby

Yep thats a good point Jake.
Jon I ant went nowhere its been a crazy few months and the other Forun has become too self centered around one person for me so I got out of there. I did go back yesterdat to wish Libbie a happy birthday and thats when I got your message there.
A big motor is fun as you know but I have had way too many kinks in mine so far. I think the most of them are ironed out and now im looking in the traction (aka wheel hop) and transmission repairs for the jumping out of gear issues.
To qoute Jake "Its in the Combo" .. You dont have to reinvent the wheel just make sure its all balanced good and it will work out. _________________ 1962 "Red Rocket" 2110 Toy

I been building everything i've ever had to go faster !
Times are tight BUT what kinda money (Ball Park) are we talking on a good step up from stock but not rippen and tearin up everything
in the drivetrain it comes near a moderate step up enough to feel the diffrence.
Also to be my first built VW motor by me with lots of knowledge from others,i can build a Indy Car with the right people telling me what to do.
It will take me some time to get it all,but i do love tinkering.
Thanks

Any opinions on runin a centermount idf as oppossed to dual Kads? I want 80-90 hp but I dont wanna open the hood everytime I drive it. Thats the one good thing about my stock1600 I've put atleast 25k on it since I built it last september and I dont ever have to fool with it. I change the oil and check the valves every3000 and thats about it. _________________ Shane Price

That sounds like what im doing - Stock 1600 lots of miles with no problems yet.
Maby i just need to stick with the stock and stay depenable for now
it will be the most afordable for now. _________________ Jeff Epperson

To be honest, that's why I'm keeping mine as stock as possible. I want a car I can drive and tinker with when I WANT to not when I HAVE to _________________ 1969 Beetle

I dont mean to give the wrong impression on performance engines. You can build a reliable performance engine. It,s all in the combo and how hard you run it. What I mean is I'm debating on a carb set up besause I want some good horse pressure but I want it drivable too if that makes sense. That you dont have to tach up to 2k to take off. I was just curious if anyone has ran single idf and does it compare to kads. _________________ Shane Price

The only people I've ever heard compliment the single IDF setup are offroad railbuggy guys. These same guys like the weber progressive carburetor, and chrome _________________ '69 Bug, 1776, dual kadrons, Web 111 cam

Thats the feed back I've gotin so far. Stuff like" I love em, I have one on my rail and it works great" That don't help me a whole lot. Sounds like I'm overthinking this stuff. Dual kads it is! _________________ Shane Price
