Got my 63 bug home the Sunday before Christmas and started tearing it down at once. It's a 63 but some parts have been converted to 64 (which will be changed back) and the title has it listed as a 64.

New years eve I pulled everything on the top engine off except for the oil cooler, that came off the next day. Interior is completely out. Dropped the engine yesterday. The body is raised off the chassis but still on it.

This is what the ruby red color originally looked like and will look like after paint.

I'm going with the 40 horse engine, everything on the car will be stock.

Awesome! I also like the 40-horse, there's something cool about it. And of course, I'm partial to the ruby. Will be fun to watch the progress!

The body is on a stand as well as the chassis. The wheels are off and I started on the rear brakes today.
When I opened the driver's side drum up I found a wasp's nest and a dirt dobber's nest! Shocked Why the heck were they so close to each other! Wouldn't they kill each other?

The nests were probably made in different years......the car has been waiting a long time.

Finally got some masonite and have redone one door panel, 3 to go.
Front beam is off and completely apart, ready to be painted when the rain clears up and it gets warmer.
Floor pans are out and 2 new ones are ready to go in soon.
All the brake lines are out.
E-brake and cables are off.

Got my beam all cleaned up and primed with the help of Jon 2. Cool
Waiting for it to dry so we can apply the second coat and paint it. The color of the primer looks so nice I might just stay with that instead of the black I have for it.

Went ahead with the black paint and finished the beam.

Last night I put my backing plates in the electrolysis tank to sit overnight. This morning I took them out and attacked them with a wire brush. The hung them up to be primed and painted.

I was halfway done with the last one when I ran out of primer Mad

Because I had a good helper. Very Happy

Started to put the first coat of paint on the backing plates and ran out of paint so I grabbed another can of paint. I finished one plate with it then it too ran out. Finally found another can that was pretty full and put 2 good coats on them.
Put new grease fittings and rubber stops on the beam. Put the torsion bars back in and I hope to clean and paint the rest of the parts of the beam tomorrow.

Putting SLEDGE to shame.....(or did I mean me to shame?)

Thanks for the pictures and updates. It may be enough to motivate me to really start work on my long overdue beetle projects.

Rock on young man!!

Cool Cool Cool

The last speedometer I worked on was shipped to the guy a few days ago and I'm not getting another one in until tomorrow so I've had some time to work on the chassis and tranny. Dad got the second floorpan welded in, the transmission is on the ground, and some of the rear suspension parts got electrolysis-ed and painted.

I'm hoping to have the chassis at Volkstock to put the brakes and suspension together. If anybody has a nice wide 5 front disc brake kit without dropped spindles (stock height) and could get them to me by or before Volkstock I would happily be a buyer. Also need a trailer to get the chassis to Bethlehem if anyone wants to help Very Happy .

I've got you covered with a trailer. Cool

Sorry, thanks to TMI the trailer is not available.

Updated the look of my speedometer to the new standard of North Georgia Speedometer.

Since it was raining I had to paint my rear brake drums in the garage. They are in there drying right now.

I'll get pictures of the sand blasted floorpans next post. Was planning on painting them with masterseries this weekend but it rained. Hopefully that will happen this week or on Friday and Saturday of Volkstock.
