Where's the best place to powdercoat a set of tins near Athens and what does it typically cost to get tins done?

Couldn't tell ya the answer to either question........I have a setup to do my own coating using a dedicated kitchen oven that I put in my backyard shop. Maybe Jon will chime in about an Athens location.

Tranny cleaned up nicely. Did you have to do any internal repairs to it?

What did you use to clean off all the road debris from the tranny.

I got the pistons pulled and the rest of the block stripped except for the oil pump. Does anyone (Clyde, Jake, anyone . . . ) know what size the 12 point socket bolts are that hold the automatic plate on the flywheel side of the engine? I'd rather not have to buy a complete set right now. Also, the white wire in the pic wasn't plugged into anything in the engine bay. Any ideas of what it was for and how to properly remove it from the case. It doesn't seem to just unplug....

The pistons are MAHLE and seem to be marked 94's on the back. At least there is a 94 stamped on the back of each one.
Sorry for the glare.

Anyone know if the rusty bracket in the next pic was for the AC?

The 12 pt bolts are 12mm for future reference. ( Thanks to a user's input on Jake's website.) The rusty bracket was indeed for AC use. (Another user's input over there Cool ) I got the auto plate off tonight, oil pump removed and all case bolts loose. Gonna review Jake's dvd once more before attempting to split the case just to make sure I don't mess anything up.

Still no answer on the mystery wire attached to the case above #1 cylinder. It has some sort of sensor on the back side of the case attachment.

More to follow..... Wink

I found a wanted ad on the Samba that showed my mystery wire and sensor. According to that, the sensor is for electronic TDC marker for diagnosing timing electronically.
