I don't know about manual buses, but my automatic has a thermal shield that goes above the tranny just below the fuel tank area and the following is a picture of the original and my replacement activity of same..........

I first made a cardboard copy . . . . .

then cut and glued three layers of double sided foil thermal blanket (similar to underhood thermal shielding)......

Then placed it with the original fold over metal tabs............

Wow! A year since I last posted on this?! Sorry, it seems that EVERYTHING got in the way last year. I did finally get back to the shop and am beginning to continue where I left off. I got the slider cover back on. Fuel filler hose is now in place. Firewall is placed. Heater fan and insulation above engine is next. Gotta finish putting the fuel injection on the engine along with the exhaust, tins and transmission. Then IN it goes!

Top of engine bay.......

The hardboard that was originally in the bus came out in pieces so I had no pattern. Cardboard is my friend! I used it to make a pattern then copied that onto a piece of hardboard bought from Home Depot. The stock nazis won't like it (1.original was 2 piece. 2. original holes were 3/4" or close to it. Mine is 1 piece and I cut 1" holes. Also I did not use original type rivets, but something close) but I think it turned out pretty good for a 1st attempt homemade.

That looks really good. You need to stay home for days on end more often.

Do you still have this bus? If you do, is it finished yet?

The last update was January of 2015!!!! Shocked It's getting close to 2017.
