Steve bought himself a Christmas present and we picked it up yesterday. It is a 69 Squareback that has been in a barn the last 11 years. The body is very solid and only need some fender and bumper repair. There is very little rust on the car and the interior will clean up quite well. The best part is that he got a 'barn find' like this for only $400.00.

I'll post the pics of us getting the car later today. Very Happy

No you got it right Thang...great find Jon! Thanks for hooking a brother up Very Happy
I'm excited about this car. The squareback is solid and unmolested. The left front fender and apron is bashed, but otherwise it is complete. It has been converted from FI to dual carbs, and most of the FI parts are missing. The computer and fuel pump are there but distributor, plenum, TB, and runners are missing. However, it does have a spare FI engine with some of the parts.

My goal is to see if the engine will turn over, and then start going through all of the components to get it on the road. It should clean up nicely, and the interior is in great shape...uncracked dash and not even a rip in the seats. The headliner has two small tears. The trunkliner is perfect.

The project begins tomorrow Very Happy I'll keep you posted!

Squareback got interior cleaned out last weekend. I hauled out 2 bags of trash. No real treasures were found...just a ton of newspapers, Downey Auto Parts receipts, about a carton of cigarette butts, 24 dozen McDonald's coffee cups and sausage biscuits wrappers. This car was truly a guy's parts getter. Interior is in excellent shape including the pan. There are a couple of quarter-sized holes in the battery tray area. All of the electricals seem to work including the dome light and door switches. I'll take some pictures this weekend. I've pulled the gas tank and will pressure wash the inside. It had about 3/4 gallon of varnished fuel in it, which I'm hoping kept the rust down. The goal this weekend is to flush out the fuel lines and go through the brakes. Testing the engine will be next. It does turn over freely, has oil in it, and wants to fire up with a little brake cleaner squirted in the carbs.

The goal is to see how little money I can put into it to get it somewhat drivable. Then I'll concentrate on making it a rolling project.

Made some progress on the Squareback. Had the gas tank boiled out; blew out the gas lines; new rear shoes and wheel cylinders; new brake hoses; new rotors, bearings, and calipers; adjusted e-brake. Brakes are done! Cut off the front bump stops and dropped the front end 2 outer splines. Got the engine to crank, but had a bad knock. Dropped the engine; took it to Shane's; stripped the tin; split the case. The only issue with the engine is the busted wrist pin bushing; tight bearing on crank; and flat lifters.
Gonna start cleaning engine parts this weekend. Looks like this puppy is going back together stock!

Thanks to Jon for hosting the tech days at his house! We got the whole crew in on getting this car back on the road...James, Darrell, Pete, Clyde, Bob, Shane, and Pete (Mr. Type III). Pete is rebuilding the 32PDSITs, Shane is rebuilding the engine, Clyde is supplying parts and tech support, Jon, Steve and Pete tackled brakes, Bob helped drop the engine, and Pete tackled the lowering job! Jon helped tear the engine down, and we are gonna clean parts and repaint tins so that Shane can do his magic!

The goal remains the same...a solid built back on the road quickly and cheaply

Very Happy

Clyde, I think that you are referring to Pete's early Riveras. That last picture is of Pete's 66 pigalle.

I'm still looking for some 914 "sport bug" wheels and some slightly used 145 tires (for the front).

I made a little headway this weekend. I started soda blasting the engine tins. I cannot get back on it until this weekend. Sad

Next up is finish blasting tins and start on cleaning engine case and parts this weekend. Then I'll move onto pressure washing the front end and rear end, and reinstalling the fuel tank, lines and pump.
