I am having clutch issues on my 1997 Jetta. While driving one day the clutch pedal slammed to the floor and never returned back to me after releasing the pedal. I replaced the cable thinking that was the issue but the new cable did the same thing. Was there something I did wrong? Or is there something else wrong other than the cable? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

charlieb

I'm not familiar with the jetta clutches but did you make sure the new cable is still connected to the pedal linkage. In my experience if you do not keep the cable under tension during installation it will pop off the linkage and you'll be in a similar place as where you started.

There is a cap on the back end of the trans. Pop it off and there is a little arm in there that actuates the clutch rod. That little arm or "foot' as we call it will be broken or stripped out where the splines are on the shaft.
