Rebuilding CV joints - Joe leads this
Window regulator rejuvenating - Bob G. leading if he is able to attend
Little Jon's bug - whatever still remains to get him on the road. I'm sure there will still be some wiring issues to sort. Window regulators, replace vent windows, replace pop-out latch, maybe bumpers, attach deck-lid, and so on........
Clyde's clutch issues?
What/who else?
Ken, are we doing Tweety's headliner??? |
Margaret needs a little (hopefully) dash wiring to prevent future dash smoke! _________________ '58 RHD 2110cc Beetle

I'm planning on being there for part of the day Friday and Sunday.
Moving my daughter off to college on Saturday.
No projects for me, but I'll be happy to get my hands dirty on somebody else's project. |

For those planning to come up Friday. Please do not arrive before noon. It takes me all morning just to get the garage all ready for vehicles.
Looking forward to another great event!

OK. So, the two lower CV boots on each side are completely split and detached at the narrow end/bottom. The uppers are intact and still soft and not brittle. I have a horrible noise (squeal/groan type noise depending on the speed) that is not affected by braking and is coming from the right rear. My first thought was wheel bearing, but I discovered the boots just the other day. I assume that the noise could be an f'd up set of lower CV bearings. Any thoughts or suggestions? A CV job was not on my bill, clearly. But, it almost seems simpler than a wheel bearing if the noise is the CV. Should I pull both CV units and inspect/repack/replace on vehicle? Should I just wait and pull the lower ends and inspect/repack/replace on vehicle? Any thoughts? I have no idea if or even when the CV's were touched last. It could be OG on this bus. _________________ "A vision without a task is a dream - a task without a vision is drudgery- but a task with vision can change the world."

Sorry for the late reply. The only job I really need to get done is to replace the windsheild in the beetle. I'd like to devote the rest of my time to helping on Little Jons car. I have a few other tasks that could get looked at if bored but are not in need of immediate attention...small oil leak, torn cv boot, rear brakes on the bus. Will be arriving mid afternoon Friday if sh... Doesn't hit the fan at work. |
