Once again, we start and end in Helen, GA. We have changed most of the stops and the route. It will be a great cruise. Here’s what you need to know:
The run is May 10. It is a Saturday. This is Mother's Day weekend.
Register with Clyde Maddox, our club treasurer. It costs $25.00 before April 19th and $30.00 after. Your entry fee gets you an event shirt and you get to draw the cards to win prizes. For those unfamiliar with a poker run, at each of the 5 stops the participants draw a card; the best poker hand wins the first choice of prizes.
Send money (please make checks to Clyde Maddox, NOT Athens VW Club) to Clyde Maddox, 536 Cherokee Ridge, Athens GA 30606. Be sure to include shirt size. Additional shirts are $10 each (include size).
Only people wanting to draw cards must pay entry fee; if you are just along for the ride, there is no charge. Please register early, as late registrations may NOT get their choice of shirt size.
Please direct any questions to jon@athensvwclub .com.(no space)
Our first stop is Fenders Diner in Cornelia; be sure to bring your lunch money.
Start time is 10:15 am. We will start and end from the parking lot of the Best Western Riverpark Inn.
Host hotel is the Best Western Riverpark Inn. This is one of the nicer, cleaner, 3-star hotels in Helen. Thanks to my wife’s negotiations, we got $30.00 off the regular weekend rate for this time of year. There is also a nice breakfast bar included, which is a savings of $8-10. Our special rate for two doubles is $99/night. This price is good through April 26. To get this rate, make your reservation by phone and tell them you are with the Athens VW Club. It applies to both Friday (5/9) and Saturday (5/10) nights.
Call (706) 878-2111 for reservations. You can view the hotel and its amenities at www.helengeorgialodging.com. We’re told that if the weather is nice, the pool will be open, so bring those beach towels and swimsuits! _________________ 73 Typ481

It is just over 100 miles. With the stops we make it takes most of the day. It is the best VW Saturday you ever spent. REALLY! _________________ 73 Typ481

Shouldn't Clyde's zip code be 30606? Only know since we used to be neighbors |

I will be posting a map of the route sometime within the next few days. Some of the route and stops will be familiar to those who have done the run before, but we have changed it up a little for a change in scenery.
If you've never done the run before, I think that you will find it is a blast especially with all of the old aircooled VW's cruising in a line through the mountains. After the awards back at the hotel we usually share a few beers and burgers around the grill. Friday night we all usually wander into town for a restaurant meal and come back to the hotel few a few beers. _________________ Steve

The long line of VWs is amazing- you really need to experience it to understand. It takes alot of love to keep that many antiques on the road. _________________ '69 Bug, 1776, dual kadrons, Web 111 cam

Whenever they can get there. I'll be there by 4:00pm if all goes as planned. At dinner time, all of us walk downtown for food and fun. _________________ 73 Typ481
