I am having the worst luck trying to find the correct paint for my 71 Standard Beetle. My paint code tag say 12 but the match option for that year is a L12D Shantung Yellow. The picture that The Samba shows appears to be close.
I have ordered this paint code from two different vendors and they both returned the same color for VW 12 and that is a light tan'ish. Others have said that maybe the car has been painted and to this I agree. I can see a tape line on the tops of the doors but the color is the same or maybe just a hair off but not tan. I sanded part of the old deck lid and got four colors, yellow, gray primer, yellow, brick primer and then steel. Everywhere I have taken off a bolt is yellow, chipped body coating, yellow, up underneath the instrument panel, yellow, behind the 37 year old, rusted fender bolts, yellow! My point is, I think this car started it's life yellow. Unfortunately I have a mid year 71 that fell into that weird void of the oncoming Super Beetle, hence the SB wiring harness that is in my Standard. Here's where I need help.

Jon, you mentioned a person, I want to say in Gainesville, that does color matching. Do you have his/their contact info or if anyone else knows someone that does this.

Group, who's bug is this at "Tech Day at Ken and Inge's"? And do you have their contact info. It looks very close to mine. Thanks in advance.

Southern Auto Color in Cornelia...

Talk to Kathy, tell her I sent you.

She was able to mix up this formula for beth's car and then matched another pint for me to paint the cooling system,.. Its near identical and all she did was scan the gas flap!!

I had Auto Body Color match mine. They are the PPG store on Mars Hill Rd just off of Hwy 78 in Bogart. They are opposite AJ's store and behind the Oconee State Bank.

The car in the tech day picture is Inge's.

That's Inge's car in the above picture, with Walt sitting near it.
