Code:
Strip, primer, paint with an off white spray, light mist with a buck skin paint, accelerate the drying process with a heat gun to get cracking and weathering, hand paint the lettering and border with appropriate  color (1971 was dark blue) and then coat with a reflective paint (see link below)

Once you are done with all this, go to your local tag office, stand in line for an hour an a half, with a two year old only to find out that The Georgia Motor Vehicle Division changed the year from 1974 to 1968 where you can run with a vintage tag. Next get pissed, tell the lady thank you for wasting your f*%ing time and inform her that they should update their website so that the next moron doesn't make the same mistake. Next say to yourself "what the hell are you thinking" for making a request to a government office.
Sorry about the code box but this is the only way my post would ............well..post.

OK..well that was interesting. Question

The best way is to pay one of the pros on the internet. They are about $65-$80, but they strip it, restore rusted metal, paint it the correct colors, and clear coat it. If you are not convinced that is the best way....ask Steve. Cool

The years that can run year of manufacture tags goes up to 1970. After that the state went to issuing the tags that stick in the corner of the plates.
