Ken and Inge, thanks for the hospitality, look forward to meeting you. The wife and kids are out of town and this is my last weekend before the school year starts! Anyone want to help me tackle/guide me through a rear torsion adjustment? Would there be time? Look forward to meeting many of you... _________________ "A vision without a task is a dream - a task without a vision is drudgery- but a task with vision can change the world."

OK, what specialty tools will be needed for the weekend? What can I bring??
Make me a list and I'll haul them down with me on Saturday.. I plan on bring a few carb rebuild gadgets and my tuning goodies but can bring more if needed..
Jon,
I think we should get aggressive and install the entire engine into the 481 at the event including the carb rebuild and you should drive it home.. If you are game, so am I.. Just say the word and we'll make it happen.
I'd say in a solid day we'll be able to make it happen and you could drive it home from the event.
But to make that happen a little less Beer drinkin' and a little more action will be required. _________________ Jake Raby

Jake, have you got a way to remove spindles from ball joints without damaging the ball joint boot? If so, please bring it. All I have are pickle forks.
Also, will a single Thunderbird glasspack (in my attic) with a large flange fit Jon's header? If so, we'll be that much closer to him being on the road! _________________ '69 Bug, 1776, dual kadrons, Web 111 cam

I don't know if the exhaust you have will work, but we could try it... I think he ordered the other unit I recommended already...
I don't have a ball joint tool... Always wanted one though.. _________________ Jake Raby

I have ordered carb kits and trans brace and paid for fast shipping on both, but I'm out of $$$ for the muffler right now. Clyde please bring the one you have.
Jake, I'm certainly game to drive home with my new 481. I'll drive the Thing over so we can take what we need from the existing engine and I'll bring the type 4 and carbs, intakes, etc. What else do I need to bring?
I've got a couple of gauges I'd like to hook up. Is it too far into assembly to put a cylinder head temp sending unit on? It is for a VDO gauge. _________________ 73 Typ481

Korbin and I will pop in at some point I'm sure. If nothing but to bring more shop rags, drinks or have a dip in the pool.
No, thanks on the "grease monkey" activites. You guys just enjoy yourselves. If I put a VW symbol on the Saturn, can I get it looked at?

After further thought (I am capable at times  ) I think I will have the engine pulled and stripped of the parts we will need. I'll then tow the Thing over and drive it home. _________________ 73 Typ481

You'd have to get me really drunk to work on a Saturn... I'd happily blow it up for ya though :-)
I can probably install the CHT sensor with the engine completed, bring it..
Take the car to the car wash the day before and blast the hell out of the engine bay and under side of the car. Purple power in a sprayer works really well to break loose all the gunk and the high pressure water will blast it off well.... I can't handle working on dirty stuff!! Having things clean will also get the job done..
While we are in the bellhousing it would be good to replace the throw out bearing, so Clyde can bring a 165B bearing with him :-)
If worse comes to worse you can drive it home with an open header... A stinger would add a nice touch :-)
This is a pretty good sized project to be done in a day.. That means you'll need to get the old engine removed ASAP on Saturday morning, before I roll in.. Then we'll tackle the parts swapping and get the TIV ready to stab in the engine bay...
**EDIT** after reading Jon's post it would be best if the engine was removed prior to the event.. That way i can get there and roll on saturday morning. _________________ Jake Raby
