Jon, call me to hear the engine on the dyno... |
I called, but no answer. All that power must make a lot of noise.

Jimbear,
If you buy and install a Camper Special in your bus you'll be ejected from the Full Moon Bus Club... That bunch of minimalists HATE my work. They think that VWs are supposed to break down daily and run like crap. |
Some of those folks are pieces of work, that is for sure. However, there are fans of your work who are regulars at in the club. And, the folks that I have met in person and have communicated with online seem to be the type that would not care one way or the other. I assume you have glanced at the most recent thread that mentions you and your work. http://fullmoonbusclub.com/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?138776.0#post_139297
As far as being minimalists, I think of it more of a traditionalist thing, or maybe, "an OG state of mind." I am that way in some respects and would be more so inclined if I had a rig that I wanted to focus more on OG-ness rather than on performance. I am running my '74 on the original 1800 that was rebuilt by a fella named Doug in Watkinsville. It is a solid running and reliable engine that still has some oomph!, but I do want more performance-wise out of my next engine...power up hills and more trailer towing ability. When it comes to the rig I want to get me around for camping excursions I want something (in the future) better and more advanced than what I have and that is where your work enters (will enter someday) the picture. Keep on doing what you do as we know you will. Regardless of the opinions of others, the proof is in the pudding!
btw - I'd like to see that Pinz in action and hope to see ya race at some point... |
Yeah, I saw that post... If those jerks hadn't banned me from there I could have assisted the guy directly..
Anyway, my personality and level of intensity doesn't jive with that bunch... primarily because I don't find it enjoyable to sit around a camp fire smoked up ... I'd rather be breeding power or doing something constructive with my time, rather than frying my brain.
Those guys are happy if they only leak a quart of oil every 3 days and if they have 3 cylinders firing its considered an accomplishment.. I'd consider an engine at that level a "core" and wouldn't ever drive it.
I know this observation is a generalization, and there are some exceptions.. I have never been banned from a forum before, and I have over 85,000 posts on the net.. I was merely trying to take up for my work when it was challenged by some idiot that felt it was acceptable to make engine sheetmetal from pieces of tin roofing, having no idea the impact it would make on his CUSTOMER'S engines!!
I'd stop and hep any VW owner that I happened upon, on the side of the road stranded, but if I saw an FMBC sticker on the back and didn't know the Bus for sure I'd probably hit the throttle instead of the brake.
One of my Customers sent this to me today:
Quote: | A wise man once said:
"Men of energy of character must have enemies;
because there are two sides to every question,
and taking one with decision, and acting on it with effect, those who take the other will of
course be hostile in proportion as they feel that effect."
-- Thomas Jefferson (letter to John Adams, 21 December 1817) |
BTW- John the engine is done, you now have 92 HP and just over 110 lb/ft of torque... From a BONE STOCK ENGINE!
You can now "Flick the Bic". _________________ Jake Raby

Rock 'n' Roll...
I teach American Lit and study American history (prefer colonial-1870's-ish) as a hobby... I am also into the Founding Fathers' ideas and philosophies...
This entered my mind today and was originally brought up by a student who was studying the inpact of religion on early America, sparked by the "In God we Trust" debate...thought it would work here...

I'm ready to come get it now....that's going to make for a long day.
At lunch I'm going to wash the bed of the truck so that it is clean enough to carry my new baby home. _________________ 73 Typ481
