So, are you having MassIVe dreams yet???

You are about to experience a Thing that doesn't need to be driven wide ass open everywhere it goes!

And its cheaper than a Chinese parts 1776 :-)

It came from a 912E just like mine!

I am constantly dreaming and thinking about the difference in power and drivability. In fact Mary is probably getting tired of hearing me start sentences with, "When I get the type 4 in the Thing...." Cool

I'm looking in to the muffler options. I can't use one that will exit thru the bumper because the trailer hitch will block the holes. Confused

You have to maintain that trailer hitch.. That way you can tow the trailer that the MassIVe engine will allow you to fill with goodies and drive anywhere you want... At 80..

Speaking of that, do you still have 181 gearing, or has someone replaced the trans???

I have a dealer option hitch for a 181 that doesn't block the bumper outlets, if you want to replicate it..

Sweet. Jon is getting a Type IV and my Thing continues to collect dust in my garage. I am such a lazy POS. Hope that it is all that you have dreamed of and more.

I do want to pull a trailer with my camping gear. That is a big reason I'm going type 4. I still have the stock 181 gearing as far as I know. I believe it is still original as it is geared low. Before the taller tires, 65-70 was top end.

Jake, I'm not finding the eurotuck exhaust ( Clyde couldn't either ), will the bugpack Hideaway muffler work? What flange does the header have on it?

My trailer hitch is from VW, but it fits inside the rear bumper. Where does yours mount?

The flange is the same as the large bugpack/ EMPI flange, not the smaller flanges..

The gearing will be great if you are towing for sure..

I know Jon can't wait to install a non-baffled stinger exhaust. Time to call Jeff to test out that tranny with a good smokey burnout Shocked

Jake already told me not to plan on dumping the clutch with all the extra power and no rear hanger for the engine. Crying or Very sad

The off-road tires probably don't spin well anyway. Twisted Evil

Jon,
The engine will be tested tomorrow... When do you want to grab it??

Jimbear,
If you buy and install a Camper Special in your bus you'll be ejected from the Full Moon Bus Club... That bunch of minimalists HATE my work. They think that VWs are supposed to break down daily and run like crap.

Jake, Did you get my engine tested? If so, how did she do? I'll call you and set up a time to come get it.

How were the races this weekend? Did you win them all?

Some of those folks are pieces of work, that is for sure. However, there are fans of your work who are regulars at in the club. And, the folks that I have met in person and have communicated with online seem to be the type that would not care one way or the other. I assume you have glanced at the most recent thread that mentions you and your work. http://fullmoonbusclub.com/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?138776.0#post_139297

As far as being minimalists, I think of it more of a traditionalist thing, or maybe, "an OG state of mind." I am that way in some respects and would be more so inclined if I had a rig that I wanted to focus more on OG-ness rather than on performance. I am running my '74 on the original 1800 that was rebuilt by a fella named Doug in Watkinsville. It is a solid running and reliable engine that still has some oomph!, but I do want more performance-wise out of my next engine...power up hills and more trailer towing ability. When it comes to the rig I want to get me around for camping excursions I want something (in the future) better and more advanced than what I have and that is where your work enters (will enter someday) the picture. Keep on doing what you do as we know you will. Regardless of the opinions of others, the proof is in the pudding!

btw - I'd like to see that Pinz in action and hope to see ya race at some point...
