I need some opinions here. I have a singleport 1600. I 'm going to tear it down soon but I feel like its a very buildable engine. I was gonna build it stock just as a spare motor. I figure every acvw owner should have a spare engine on standby. But I thought maybe build somewhat of a performance engine. I know a guy that has a few different cams and a set of solex 40/44's I could get cheap. The carbs have singleport mani's on them . Would it be dumb to 1776 this thing with a mild cam and dauls on sp heads. I olso have a set of daulport FI heads, but with smaller valves in the fi heads I figured the sp would be better but I'm not sure . btw its a small stud dual relief case. _________________ Shane Price

I've loved mine for over 30,000 miles. study up on the CCs-cam-compression ratio at shop talk forums or the samba. Webcam grinds 110, 111, 218 are great. These little engines can have plenty of useable power- you don't have to wind it out to get power. I've got Scat linkage, which is 10 times easier to adjust. _________________ '69 Bug, 1776, dual kadrons, Web 111 cam

I was wondering the same thing but could not find dual carbs for cheap.
I too have a 1600 singleport and the 30/31 took a crap so I found a real nice german 34 pict 3 and fabbed a new larger flange and welded it to the old manifold.
It is not dual carbs but should be a bit of improvement. I may have it going this weekend, so I can follow up and let you know. |

I've got a set of dual Kadrons for sale. $150.00 carbs and new air cleaners. I don't have intakes or linkage. If someone local wants them, I won't put them on the Samba. _________________ 73 Typ481

Normally I would be glad to work a trade, but I'm trying to raise money for my vacation. _________________ 73 Typ481

A vw mechanic friend has these. They are complete with linkage, sp mani's, air filters. The down side is they don't have chokes so I'm not going to use them. He will let them go cheap . If anyone is interested. _________________ Shane Price
