Just figured I'd ask that question now so I can be preparing some information and try to organize some chaos so we get some work done, but people also learn something from the event. Beth and I need to have an idea of how many people will be making the trip, for planning purposes.

Tell me what interests you most, keep in mind that my focus is engines, but I have knowledge about most every aspect of a VW. Engine stuff seems quite foreign to some people and I'd like to help them understand more and put it into terms they can comprehend.

Also, if anyone wishes to learn about tuning and how it can effect their engine I'll have the chassis dyno open and we can try different jetting and timing to see how it impacts the engine. If you want to take advantagee of swapping some components to see the gains or losses, go ahead and order those parts and have them with you at tech day.

Look forward to this! It's less than a month away!

I would like to fine tune my type 4. The carbs aren't quite right with the jetting. I would also like to swap to my new exhaust system.

Once that is done I'd like to see the Thing on the dyno. Cool

I'll be there, solo. Interest: Tuning, as it pertains to performance, cooling and efficiency. What components of and engine effect what? As I have enough money to buy.........................well.....nothing, I'll have to watch this on another vehicle. No use in putting a band aid on a broken arm.

See ya there!

I am in. Jake, I'd like to get the tuning process down...valves, timing, and carbs and would greatly appreciate your expertise in helping me down this path. A pledge... "I, Captain Lugnuts, do solemnly swear to not consume any beer until my work is done..." Shocked

As far as parts swapping...anyone have a set of Delortos they would like to do a partial trade for with a 1/2 length VW roof rack?

Also, how about doing a potluck type of gig where everyone brings something for food...?

I am the technical director, talk to Beth about food and things not related to mechanical manipulation!! A potluck sounds good to me, I'll see if I can kill something between now and then to toss in the pot :-)

Thats already written in stone :-)

Better than that- we'll do the work on the dyno, swapping the timing and jetting for direct comparisons :-)

Jon,
Can you email all the members that don't post on the forum to see if they are interested, or if they plan on attending?

Bring your own tools if possible, I have all the specialized stuff, don't worry about that..

I will send out an email to everyone.

Just to be clear, this a Saturday and Sunday (April 4&5) event and people can camp Saturday night if they wish.

What time do we start?

People need to let us know if they are planning on attending so we have an idea of what number to plan for.

If we are going to do a pot-luck meal we need a volunteer to plan it. Any takers??????

If you are going to need parts for your car, PLEASE get them ordered as Jake said. Clyde will be glad to take any and all orders.

Jake if any of this is incorrect or incomplete let me know.

It all sounds correct to me..
I'd say we can stretch it into Friday night as well, since its an hour drive from Athens to the shop..

I have several places to camp and the whole up stairs of the new shop is open for crashing as well, jst bring a sleeping bag or a cot or other improvised device..

I have a shower in the old farm house that can be used, just bring towels and etc to take care of yourself...There is also a couch and 3 bunks in the farm house that we utilize when we are in the middle of big projects and stay here for days on end...

As for the meal... Beth should chime in on that soon, but it is tax season and she will be busy as hell!

I would say that we (meaning yall) should start the tech day Saturday morning. Work thru the day, have a nice meal for supper and then anyone that would like to camp/crash is welcome to do so. Depending on how many come and stay to eat, we might pick up some BBQ from this little place in Helen. Or,we would always throw burgers and/or dogs on the grill.

I like to tune on engines, hell I can do that all day and never get bored..

I hope to have Beth's new engine on one of the Dynos by then... 2270 TIV with a roller cam!

Clyde, will you be in the parts wagon or your bug? If bug, could we start an order thread of things needed?

I'm a little behind lately- sorry.

Tuning is everything. We need some sit down time in your new classroom- talk about timing and the different carb circuits and how they affect accelleration, etc....

The majority of the Athens crowd have stock setups, and need timing info. I tell everyone approx. 10 initial, approx. 30 all in. Get the question all the time. We need to make a sticky on timing one day....

Non stock cars need dyno time-

1 Jon has idle jet clogging problems.

2 I think I may need smaller main jets in my Kadrons, and my timing could be experimented with.

We could do a leak down test on a healthy engine and a sick one.

Also a talk on guages. What are normal temps and pressures.

I like planning and having a goal. We don't need to fix every little detail on everyones car in one day. Let's focus on tuning, so no one burns up on the way to Chattanooga or on the Poker Run.
