June 12, 13, 14 Camping at Fort Yargo, who all is going? There is a primitive site like the last camping trip for $50 otherwise it's $23 a site per night. I'll be talking with a park ranger tomorrow so I'll get more info. We need a minimum 10 for the large site.
Below is the information for Campground : FORT YARGO PIONEER CAMPSITE
This is a primitive, rugged site for groups only. 10 person minimum. Site is located by itself. Site has water but no electricity. Site has fire ring and pit toilets. The area has two adirondack shelters, picnic shelter, and horseshoe pit. Site located in large wooded area in B-Section of park, approximately 100 yards from lake, hiking trails. Swimming, mini golf and boat rentals are 3 miles by car and 1 mile by trail. _________________ 71 Standard Beetle "Big Bird"

Thanks for looking into it Scott. I reserved the primitive "crap in a dirt hole" site a few years back, and no one wanted to go, so we cancelled the trip, and the club forfeited the $10 cancelation fee.
I suggest we go for sites with accessable toilets. _________________ '69 Bug, 1776, dual kadrons, Web 111 cam

Now that the lake is up, how about Lanier? I'll come and visit with you guys but for $23 a night, I have a hard time camping 10 miles from the house. _________________ 71 Standard Beetle "Big Bird"

My interpretation of Camping includes crapping in a dirt hole... One that you have to dig yourself with an entrenchment tool :-)
Thats part of the fun... :-) _________________ Jake Raby

I'm just glad that I'm not eating anything while reading this. That guy in the illustration must have been stoved up for several days...damn!
I'm not sure about camping that week end. I think the Stephenson, Al Bugblast is the weekend before. _________________ Steve

Steve, I'm not sure if you mean that your not sure if you will camp that weekend or that we should plan it. It is already on our calendar. The next few weekends are VW busy. R.U. Buggin, Stephenson, BK tunin at Jake's. Fort Yargo....I guess we all have to pick and choose.
It is cool to have so much going on. _________________ 73 Typ481

I need to bow out on the camping- too many weekends away in one month. Does anyone want to take charge of it? Or should we drop it due to so much other stuff going on this month? _________________ '69 Bug, 1776, dual kadrons, Web 111 cam

Who is still wanting to camp? Jon and I are camping at Stevenson AL this weekend, but would probably do Yargo too. We both like to camp and Winder is close enough if we need to be in Athens for something we can. _________________ 73 Typ481

Yep sounds like fun. Christi and I live just around the corner from Yargo. I can't see paying $23 a night. But I am not against the primitive area. Or we might just come over and hang out but not camp. _________________ 1963 Beetle

James makes a good point. I forgot how high the tent site cost was. They have a two night minimum on weekends and I don't want to spend $46.00 to camp.
Maybe we can do a day trip there for either Saturday or Sunday. Bring the kids and a picnic and play for a few hours. What do ya'll think? _________________ 73 Typ481
