i have a problem with my 67 bug,it has a 1600 dp in it and i can't get it to run cool.i have replaced the generator, carb, intake, dist(svda),starter, fuel tank, and fuel pump.the timing is set at 8 degrees btdc, the carb is set right as far as i can tell.i have power and it cranks when it is cool.i drive it for about 15 to 20 mins and it stops taking fuel.i have the idle set at around 870.i have also adjusted the valves.i need to know what might be causing it to run hot.will the backing plate on the generator make a differance if it is on wrong.somebody give me some ideas.thanx |

Are you sure its running hot? What do you mean it stops taking fuel? Do you mean it stops pumping fuel to the carb? _________________ Shane Price

Have you checked for spark when it stops? _________________ Shane Price

O K , have you pull the top off of the carb when it quits to see if there is fuel in the bowl? _________________ Shane Price

I would check that next. You could have a needle and seat issue. The engine will feel really hot anyway but if you have all you tin and your fan is turning its not likely to over heat. Besides I've seen bugs ran so hot it melted pistons and it kept going until it damged itself to the point that it couldn't physically run anymore. Chances are you have some minor issue that you just have to track down.Sometimes bad coils will run til they get hot and stop. Fuel pumps will run til hot and stop pumping. I had one that would get hot and the fuel pump insulator would swell enough to grab the fuel pump pushrod and hold it from moving. If your sure fuel pump is pumping and coil is firing the next step is carb bowl. Just keep in mind new doesn't always equal good. _________________ Shane Price
