Here is the background information:

* White smoke appears out of passenger side tailpipe when starting and harder than normal to start - (At Volkstock)

* Decided to drive to Athens/Academy Sports yesterday - Hard to start but ran fine all the way to Athens.

* Headed home...Hard to start, then it happened!!

* While slowing down to stop at a RED light, the engine stalls.

* It will not turn over, oh my god....I'm dead in the fast lane at Oconee Connector and Hwy 316.

* The light turns green - Oh crap! Wave people around, turn on emergency lights - Glad I'm not in "SLEDGE" or the 2 kind gents (probably DAWG fans!!) would have kept on going instead of stopping to help push us out of the way of traffic into the center lane.

* Check engine compartment, got gas driping from throttle cable, small leaks/remnence of gas around carb and being careful not to burn my legs on the tailpipes (I notice liquid in the passenger tailpipe)....GAS? - I dipped my finger into the small puddle at the end of the tailpipe and smelled it - Yep Gas. - (Maybe that has something to do with the WHITE smoke?

* After the traffic went passed and an opening arose, I pushed the car to the right side of the road with Inge at the helm.

* Recue friends came and picked us up, 1/2 hour later, I was back with Truck and towbar to bring TWEETY safely home to 203 Cole Circle. - (Glad I decided not to drive it to work on Thursday of this week...I would have been broken down in Snellville, Hwy 78 during morning rush hour!!)

So what do I do now? Any ideas as to what the problem is?
(You know I need all the engine assistance I can get) Embarassed

Thanks club!!

Sounds like a carb issue...stuck float maybe or trash under the needle and seat...get out the BAH (big ass hammer) and tap on the top of the carb. Laughing

Hey Ken, a stuck float/inlet valve would make tons of gas spew into your engine, uncontrolled by the flaping action of the float. tapping on the side of the carb might free the "stuckness" of it.

You might also just remove the screws holding the top of the carb on, and blow thru the hose fitting, while lowering and raising the inlet valve with your finger. The valve should go up and down freely, with no stickyness. If it sticks, get another one out of your leftovers pile from your last carb rebuild and use it.

I would agree. It's pretty much either needle and seat or you float went titanic and sank to the bottom. Just hold the float to your ear and shake it. If you hear liquid in it thats bad.

Yes - Everyone was correct. From now on, I am carrying a minimum of 5 club member phone numbers in my cell at all times. The needle was the culprit - (My VW mechanic "GARY" came by this week with a carb rebuild kit and we replaced the needle and wallah!!)

She is back on the road once again!!
Very Happy

Thanks to everyone for their input and suggestions. How did you all get so smart??? Embarassed Embarassed Embarassed

Do we already have a place on the FORUM with THINGS TO CHECK FIRST WHEN.....

A lot of you VETERANS knew exactly what to do when I explained my problem recently. It would be awesome to have a technical sheet/s with what to do when "this happens"...

Might not be useful to you UGA grads, but the ONLINE GATOR and others might find good information from your experience. What good is all that knowledge if it is stuck up in your head. PUBLISH the good stuff huh?

I'd rather lose as a BULLDAWG than win as a gaytor. Kisses
