Before I research this I thought someone might know. How do you figure out the year model and gear ratio of a T1 trans? I have a irs trans to go in my 74. I know it is between a 71 and 74 because it has late style throwout bearing guide and two side plates. I was told it was a 73 which is what I want for the higher ring and pinion.

My trans shifts fine and no leaks it just has a front mainshaft bearing noise. I have another trans that I was gonna put in it but I wanted to know if it was actually a bug trans. Guess what, it aint! its a type181 trans with a 4.125 r&p and a .93 4th. I dont want that in my bug. But it gets better. My bug is currently running a type 3 unit with a 4.125 r&p and a.89 4th. Thats alittle better but I want a AT or AS code 73- with a 3.875 and a .93. So I guess I'm trans hunting Cool
